Graupner Chico

Graupner Chico (1977)

The Graupner Chico Radio control sport model was released in the 1970’s .

Plans:

I printed the plans to scale size. Most of the parts were recreated from .25″ foam board “ready board” from the dolla store.

Motor:

The original model had a gas powered motor with gas tank. I replaced the gas motor with a Lipo powered electric motor. Adapting the fuselage to accept a battery and speed control while keeping the nose weight forward.

Wings:

Wings have carbon fiber tubes for light weight rigidity. There is a single servo for the ailerons using torsion style rods.

Assembly:

The fuselage and wing are hand cut with an Xacto knife. The Tail stabilizers are made from balsa wood. The foam board is vey easy to cut and glues together with hot glue. I made the Canopy by shaping a foam block and fiber glassing over it. The engine cowl is made from tin. The covering is basic packaging tape the comes in a variety of colors. It adds protection, strength and design.
